Canadian Members of Parliament are scheduled to vote on Bill C-218 at second reading on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The bill would prevent Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) from being provided when mental illness is the sole underlying medical condition. Without a change in legislation, this expansion of MAiD is scheduled to take effect on March 17, 2027.

We thank all those who have participated in the HelpNotHarm campaign. Concerned citizens are encouraged to contact their Member of Parliament and respectfully ask them to support Bill C-218. Those living with mental illness need care, support and hope. Visit www.helpnotharmcanada.ca for more information and to find contact details for your MP.

Please watch Cardinal Frank Leo’s video message below and join us in praying for those living with mental illness, their families and all parliamentarians considering this important legislation.
